Websites, Trailers, and Blogs, Oh My!

Well, I think it's finally all coming together.

I have a website! It's www.heidi-willis.com.

I've become a dot com! It's very strange to type that without adding the blogspot in there! My fingers are very conditioned!

As you can tell, the blog is still here, though, and it has a new look: a little streamlined to match the new website. I think I really like it, although there is one kink I haven't worked out, so we'll see if it all sticks!

It's amazing how difficult all this technical stuff is for me. Not necessarily the doing of it, but the choosing of it. I have as hard a time defining my blog/web look as I do defining my writing.

But now it's done, and I can finally breathe again. And get something else done!

Oh! And I have a trailer now!! It's on the website as well as right there, on the side of the blog!

Does it ever get old to hear me say, I can't believe this is really happening!!

  3. I love it, Heidi! You've done an incredible job with decorating and what a great book trailer. Can't wait to read it!!

I bet you are still reeling over the events of becoming published-which is awesome! Enjoy it, keep us posted and we support your every step. :)

  4. Thank you!! I woke up this morning and I still think I like it. :)

A little more professional, a little less scrapbooky, a little girly but not too much... hopefully it's the right balance.

    Y'all are great cheerleaders!

  5. That is awesome! I love the look. Did you do it yourself? Do you have major website building skills? I've been thinking about trying to put up a website but my skills are dangerously limited.

  6. Natalie - thank you!! No - I do not have any web building skills!

The blog is a template I found on the internet - a completely customizable one so I determined how many columns, all the colors, etc. Then I made the banner at the top on Photoshop to match the website.

The website was done through Homestead.com. They have a huge inventory of customizable templates as well. I found the green one and loved it right off the bat. You can change the background colors and everything, but I kept most of it. I put in all my own photos, moved things around, created text boxes, etc. Anything that looks good was probably theirs in the template. If it looks bad, it's probably mine! :)

For the fact that both started with templates, though, they took a huge amount of time! Not a lot of talent, probably, but a lot of time. :)

  7. I like the new look here very much, even though you've sold out and gone .com (just kidding, of course). :)

  8. Totally awesome. Loved the trailer and love the new look. I can't wait to read your book. I hope it will be available in Canada or else I'll have to break down and order it on-line.

  9. Very fresh! Good job!

I love templates, but you're right. You'd think they'd be easier than do-it-yourself but they're still a lot of work. Would you mind sharing where you got yours for the blog? Thanks.

  10. kathryn - the blog template is from ourblogtemplates.com. This template is called cooozie (yes, there are three o's in it!).

Be careful if you want to experiment with it, because it will remove most of your widgets (all that stuff on the sidebar) and you will have to put them all back on.

It allows you to customize a lot better than blogger, though!

  11. Awesome website...and book trailer. Up until now, I didn't really know what Some Kind of Normal was about. I just knew that I liked the title...and the author. And your book touches on an issue that most people feel strongly about one way or the other, which means that is totally going to sell. I can't wait to read it.

  12. Jessie - thanks! well, I hope it sells! There's always that nagging worry that it won't!

I keep forgetting I finished it nearly a year ago and a lot of people that come by the blog now weren't here then!
